        Community Organizer
DART Organizers Institute in Columbus, Ohio

The DART Organizers Institute is a paid training program designed to recruit, train, test, and place exceptional community organizers in the DART network. This formal training program is for individuals who have the raw talent and motivation to become great organizers, but may lack the experience to launch a career. Essentially, the formula is simple: learn to organize from the best in the business then go onto a fulltime career building power for justice.

        Description:
The DART Organizers Institute training will include two distinct stages beginning January 9, 2012. Each stage will begin with a formal on-line or regional classroom training followed by a period of experience-based learning while working at one of our affiliated organizations. A formal evaluation will be performed upon completion of each stage to determine long-term potential and interest. The two stages are:
        1. DART Fellowship - a 50-day fellowship that will include an initial on-site orientation followed by six weeks of field training and a weekly reading and written curriculum related to the basic principles of community organizing. Fellows will be assigned to work with selected religious congregations in order to expand and develop leaders in each congregation. Skill development will focus on articulating the mission of the organization, intentionally developing relationships through one-on-one conversations, engaging leaders based on their personal motivations, time management, and running effective meetings.
        2. DART Organizer in Training - will last approximately 70 days and will include a two -day training and planning retreat and continued field training and an advanced weekly reading and written curriculum. Organizers in Training will be assigned to selected religious congregations to deepen networks of leaders capable of producing a large turnout to public actions where issues of justice are brought forward. Skill development will focus on building networks, long-term planning, working with clergy, and issue development.
Successful graduates of the DART Organizers Institute will be placed on Permanent Staff with an expectation of at least three years of employment within the DART network. Vocational development will continue through an annual schedule of three two-day training and planning retreats, summer staff retreats, and joint regional staff trainings.
